In mall atriums, aisle partitions, suspended pillar signage, and storefront windows, a special type of signage is being widely adopted: double-sided illuminated letters. Many people easily confuse double-sided letters with backlit letters or sandwich letters:
Backlit Letters: Feature a solid metal front. They only cast a halo of light onto the wall from the back; the front face itself does not glow.
Sandwich Illuminated Letters: Have metal shells on the front and back, with light only shining through the central gap. The flat front and back surfaces remain unlit.
Double-Sided Illuminated Letters: Both the front and back are flat, glowing acrylic panels, with a metal edge forming a box structure in between. Equipped with two independent sets of LED light sources inside, the entire front and back panels illuminate uniformly at the same time. The metal edges remain unlit, displaying identical text and graphics on both sides to achieve a complete dual-directional display.
Though they look minimalist, the manufacturing difficulty is far higher than that of standard single-sided signs.
While single-sided signs only require one good panel, double-sided signs demand that both acrylic panels have identical flatness and perfectly aligned contours without any misalignment. The metal box edges must be tightly sealed, and two independent light sources must be arranged inside to ensure balanced brightness on both sides, avoiding issues like uneven illumination, light breaks, or hotspots. Welding, gluing, and wiring are all concentrated within the narrow box interior, demanding strict precision in sheet metal work, wiring, and sealing. Fine strokes require even more careful light arrangement to guarantee consistent illumination on both sides.
When the lights are off during the day, the acrylic panels on both sides look clean and flat, while the metal edges feature crisp lines, creating a minimalist and modern aesthetic. Once illuminated at night, both sides glow uniformly and synchronously. Without needing to rotate the sign, pedestrian traffic on both sides receives the complete brand message, significantly boosting exposure efficiency.
